Six Months with Max

Hard to believe that it has been 6 months since we met our Max - where has the time gone? When we first met Max he seemed so little - more like a 2 year old than a 3 year old. His body was slight with his little ribs sticking out, his fingernails thin as paper and his teeth stained. Don't get me wrong - this child was loved and cared for ... that we can tell. At the same time, just how much can we expect out of these social welfare institutes? Many mouths to feed, teeth to brush and hugs to give out.

Max has changed so much that I don't even know how to record it all. He is healthy! We are still baffled by his incredible strength - he can carry things that weigh more than him. He has amazing balance and appears to be quite the little athlete. His language has come full circle - we often wish he would stop talking! He can communicate and has great language skills. He now can spell his name, can count to 20, is grasping colors [for awhile I thought be might be color blind, but now he seems fine],goes to school by himself and can play with other kids. He is a ladies man and I find that most of his teachers - at school, church or the gym - fall for him pretty fast. Maybe it is the dimples? He prays every night for just about everything he encountered that day - including watching Diego and eating ice cream. He has developed an amazing imagination that allows him to play for long stretches of time with McKaden ... I NEVER thought this would ever happen. The kids now play together, without me/us, for long periods of time!! A dream come true!

We cannot imagine our life without Max - he was meant to be with us. We have fallen so deeply in love with this little boy. Sometimes at night when we go and peek at our kids, we stop, get a little misty eyed, and think of the great blessing they are to us. When we think of what their lives could have been, and what they are now, we stop and thank our God - the God who adopted us as his own and made us joint heirs with Christ. Adoption. Amazing.

School Year 2008

School Days

It is time for school! McKaden was excited to take Max to his new school. On the ride there she talked non-stop about what he was to expect, how he would make new friends, that mama would be back and that there would be SNACKS!

McKaden is a three year old in a sea of four and five year olds - but she can hold her own. She is excited for her new class and all the things she will learn this year.

Max did great! I was concerned on how he would do but he jumped right in and played - first with the dollhouse until I re-directed him over with the boys and the cars [to much time with his sister]. He was smiling when I picked him up and told me that he made me a picture.

And this was Max about 3 minutes into the drive to get ice cream to celebrate the first day of school - school is hard work! AND this is McKaden, ready to go back tomorrow!!!

McKaden's Wedding

For weeks now my mom has been excited to come over to visit us for "McKaden's Wedding". The truth is that McKaden did not get married - but our friends Jessica and Casey did and she was the flower girl. It was a H family day with Mark officiating, hosting it at our house and McKaden with the flowers! She took great pride in her flower dropping - making sure there were in a straight line [wind blew one away she got it and put it back in line!] - so it took a while for her to walk down the aisle.

Once up front, she decided to show everyone that she had been working on her jump shot.

And explored what was under the communion table.

It was fun to see our friends [once kids who were involved in our ministry] and to see Jess and Casey tie the knot.

ps. AND she danced the night away in her ladybug boots - I guess those sandals were just too fancy!
